Solid Waste Management Seasonal Event

Denver-Recycles.jpg

Events all over Denver (and the world for that matter) have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Denver Recycles’ seasonal and special events have been no exception. While we’ve been able to host some events, we’ve also had to postpone and eventually cancel others like the 2020 Great Denver Cleanup and the 2020 Mulch Giveaway and Compost Sale. That said, we’re happy to report that we are moving forward with the 2020 LeafDrop program and will have some more detailed information available soon! The most up-to-date information can always be found at DenverGov.org/LeafDrop.

Even though the Mulch Giveaway and Compost Sale didn’t happen this year, you can still buy compost made from the food scraps and yard debris collected by the Denver Composts program. Bags of Denver’s Own EcoGro™ Compost are available at your neighborhood Ace Hardware store. Plus, between September 25 and October 26, Ace Hardware is offering a buy 2, get 1 free promotion. You can get three bags for the price of two!

Using compost in the fall provides benefits to plants over the winter and can help kick-start your garden prep work for next spring. Here are just a few ways to use compost now so that you can thank yourself later:Add a layer of compost to planter boxes and garden beds.Top dress lawn with 3/8” to 3/4” of compost after aerating.Incorporate compost into soil around the base of plants and shrubs. If planting in the fall, partially backfill planting holes with compost.

Not sure how much compost you need?
