Transforming A Playground

Extreme Community Makeover volunteers had a wonderful opportunity on the October 8th Work Day when they got to help out at Cheltenham Elementary School. Taylor Clark, team lead for the Follow-Up Team for ECM, helped coordinate with the school. “My sister works at Cheltenham Elementary and their early childhood education playground was in pretty rough shape. I told my sister about ECM and she thought it might be a way to get help fixing up their playground.”

When the volunteers arrived, the playground was not much more than a cement courtyard full of dirty toys and picnic tables. Thankfully, volunteers from Lesbians for Good, Denver Community Church, and Individuals were up for the task. “We worked the entire day plus some,” Taylor said. The volunteers power washed the cement, weeded the planters, cleaned the toys, threw out trash, and repainted the yellow and red race track.

The playground was truly transformed! The students came out to a clean, bright playground the Monday-after and were so happy. The kids really did love it!

When the students saw their playground on Monday morning, they immediately started running on the track, they were so grateful.

ECM loves bringing communities together that otherwise might not have a chance to meet. If you are interested in experiencing a transformative work day, October 22nd is the final opportunity of 2022.

If you would like to volunteer more consistently, like Taylor, look into joining one of our ten Extreme Teams
