Extreme Teams Spotlight : Taylor

Taylor Clark - Follow-Up Team

What is your story about how you got involved in Extreme Community Makeover?

I always like to be involved in groups doing good. When I move to a new city I try to put "getting involved" at the top of my post-moving to-do list. I moved to Denver in 2021 and started searching around for volunteer opportunities. The ECM post caught my eye and the work days were so frequent that I could easily fit a few into my work schedule. Once I completed a couple work days I realized how effective ECM was at making a difference and wanted to become more involved so I volunteered for the Follow-Up Team.

Why are you on the Follow-Up Team?

ECM has a great array of options for the Extreme Teams, but the Follow-Up Team was exactly what I was looking for. I love talking to neighbors about their community and now I get to do that as part of my work day duties. I think folks often take their neighbors for granted, but your neighbor can make your whole life safer and happier. Also, being new to Denver, I appreciate getting to hear from a large variety of residents what they love about their community and what they wish was different.

What do you enjoy most about being the team leader?

I enjoy being a team leader because I get to help even more. I like to hear more about the internal workings of ECM and the other Extreme Teams' progress.

What is a memorable experience from an ECM Work Day?

My most memorable experience from an ECM work day happened just this month (October 2022). My sister works at Cheltenham Elementary School and their early childhood education playground was in pretty rough shape. I told my sister about ECM and she thought it might be a way to get help fixing up their playground. We were paired with some great groups, including Lesbians for Good, and we all worked our butts off. We worked the entire day plus some, but the playground was truly transformed. The students came out to a clean, bright playground the Monday-after and were so happy.

If you had one sentence to describe what ECM is about, what would you say?

Uniting and organizing residents to improve their communities.

What else would you like to share that wasn’t answered in one of these questions?

ECM is amazing thanks to the efforts of its large group of dedicated volunteers, but also due to the incredible leadership of Angela Bomgaars. I feel lucky to be part of ECM during a time when the organization is growing into its next phase.
