Board of Directors Spotlight - Elvis

Elvis Rubio has served on the ECM Board of Directors for nearly two years. Keep reading to learn more about Elvis, what inspired him to join the board, and how his work in community development helps support ECM's mission.

What is your professional background/experience and how do you bring that to the ECM board?

I bring a background in community development, public policy, and neighborhood stabilization through my work with Denver Economic Development & Opportunity (DEDO). My focus is on advancing equitable development, preventing displacement, and aligning investments to better serve residents and small businesses. Through DEDO's Neighborhood Equity & Stabilization (NEST) work, I've had the opportunity to support initiatives that help preserve the character of Denver neighborhoods while ensuring longtime residents and local businesses can thrive. This experience allows me to bring a systems-level perspective to the ECM Board while helping connect the organization's work to broader community resources, partnerships, and opportunities.

How did you initially get connected to Extreme Community Makeover?

I was first introduced to Extreme Community Makeover through Angela several years ago. Through that connection, I had the opportunity to see firsthand the impact ECM's volunteers were making in Denver neighborhoods and the meaningful relationships they were building with residents.

What about ECM’s mission drew you to join the board?

ECM's commitment to investing directly in neighborhoods and supporting residents where they are truly resonated with me. I was especially drawn to the way the organization combines hands-on neighborhood improvements with building community, strengthening relationships, and creating long-term stability for residents.

How has being on the board enhanced/changed your view of ECM?

Serving on the ECM Board has given me an even deeper appreciation for the intentionality behind the organization's work. I've gained a better understanding of the coordination, collaboration, and care that goes into every project, and how those efforts translate into meaningful, lasting impact for residents and neighborhoods.

How do you see ECM’s impact on Denver neighborhoods?

ECM brings together residents, volunteers, and community partners to create visible, lasting improvements in Denver neighborhoods. Beyond the physical transformation, the work builds community pride, strengthens relationships, and creates a foundation for long-term neighborhood stability.

Thank you Elvis!
