Got Old Paint? Bring it to the FREE PaintCare Collection Event on August 24

Mark your calendar! PaintCare is hosting a paint collection event on Saturday, August 24, from 8 AM to 3 PM at South High School (1700 E. Louisana Ave.).  Don’t miss out on this free and convenient opportunity to get old, unwanted paint out of your home. Signing up for this event is as easy as creating an appointment at www.paint-denver-south-high.eventbrite.com.  
 
These items are accepted at the event on 8/24:

• House paint (latex or oil-based)
• Stains
• Deck and concrete sealers
• Clear finishes (varnishes, shellac, etc.)

These items are NOT accepted at the event on 8/24:

• NO leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers
• NO aerosol spray paints
• NO drums or containers larger than 5-gallons
• NO other hazardous materials (paint thinners, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, cleaning chemicals, etc.)

Additional Event Notes:

• Paint must be in sealed, original containers with original manufacturer’s label.
• Early drop-offs are considered illegal dumping and are not allowed.
• Some additional limitations apply to businesses. Questions about business limitations should be directed to (855) PAINT09.

Can’t make the event? Not to worry, there are now more than 150 permanent PaintCare drop-off sites located throughout Colorado, with 25 drop-off sites in the Metro Denver area alone! Both residents and businesses can take unwanted, leftover house paint to these sites for free. PaintCare is funded by the “PaintCare Fee” which was added to the purchase price of paint sold in Colorado starting July 1, 2015. When you buy paint, you will see a line item on your receipt or invoice for each container. This amount is a fee and not a deposit, so you will not get it back when you drop off paint at participating retailers. Instead, these fees are used to fund the paint stewardship program which includes paint collection, transportation, recycling, public outreach, program administration, and the management of old “legacy” paint that has been accumulating in homes and businesses prior to the start of the PaintCare program. Most of the paint collected by PaintCare is recycled into new paint products.  The paint materials that cannot be recycled are converted and used as a fuel, made into other products, or disposed of properly.
