Schedule a Household Hazardous Waste collection appointment to get stockpiled toxic materials out of your home and garage, and to prevent the potential for a chemical spill. Denver residents are eligible for one at-home collection appointment per calendar year.  Make your appointment today by calling 1-800-HHW-PKUP (1-800-449-7587).Only one collection kit bag is provided per appointment, so it is important to prioritize your materials prior to your appointment in order to maximize your collection.  The large heavy-duty collection bag holds about 10 to 12 cans or bottles of material. Here are some tips for preparing your materials for collection:1.       Follow the instructions that come with your collection kit.  Make sure all your materials are labeled.2.       Make sure the most toxic materials you have get into the collection kit.  Pesticides, insecticides, acids, bases and corrosives chemicals are accepted in the hazardous waste program.3.       If you run out of space in the collection kit, remove some paint.  Most paint products can be recycled at no cost to you at one of the many sponsored PaintCare drop-off locations.  To find the nearest drop-off site, use PaintCare’s online search tool at paintcare.org or call the PaintCare hotline at 1-855-724-6809.4.       If you have more material than will fit in the kit, excess materials can be collected for an additional fee to you.  Please call the HHW hotline at 1-800-449-7587 prior to your appointment to arrange collection and payment of excess materials.5.       Set your collection bag out by 7 a.m. on your scheduled appointment collection day. If you did not already pre-pay, be sure to include the $15 co-payment with your set-out.Please note a $15 co-payment is required from the resident for each appointment, and a minimum of three different types of materials or 25 pounds of one material is required in order to schedule an appointment. For additional information about the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program, visit DenverGov.org/DenverRecycles or call 311 (720-913-1311).
