Communications Team Blog Post : May 22

On Saturday, May 22nd, the Extreme Teams took to the streets of the Villa Park neighborhood to clean eight of its beautiful alleys. Situated east of I-25 and north of 6th Avenue, the neighborhood features a healthy portion of alleys. These slightly narrower roads provide residents with the space for various community building activities; loading furniture, unloading furniture, and painting furniture without risk of getting paint on the main roads.

On this particular morning, the alleys served as a forum and waiting room for residents. A meeting space where community members discovered the Extreme Community Makeover dumpster and quickly elected an ambassador to ask if they could use it for their own trash.

As always, the answer was “Yes, of course you can use it! If there is extra space after we are done using it!”

The question of the day was simple.

Have you found any interesting trash?

  • A volunteer with HPM Contracting informed me that he found a few puzzle pieces.

  • One of our many individual volunteers told me she found a hat.

  • Not to be outdone, one of our younger volunteers informed me that he found a rock.

By the end of the day, the 35 volunteers high fived in celebration of a successful volunteer day. With extra room in the dumpster, residents carried over a recliner, box frame, and a collection of a dozen laundry baskets.
