How Much Good Can 10 Years Do?
This year is Extreme Community Makeover's 10 Year Anniversary. And, time does fly when you are doing a lot of good! We've accomplished so much good in the city of Denver. In total, ECM has completed 2,438 projects, with over 160,200 volunteer hours, and 31,380 volunteers have participated in cleaning up our city. There has been $161, 849.62 donated in food and project supplies, as well as $3,890,537.40 in volunteer labor invested into Denver communities.
How It All Began
In 2008, ECM began its focus in the Villa Park and West Colfax neighborhoods in Denver. In 2009, ECM expanded into the neighborhoods of Globeville and La Alma/Lincoln Park. In 2010, ECM started serving the Barnum and Westwood neighborhoods. In 2012, ECM began working in the Elyria and Swansea neighborhoods as well. Currently, ECM projects take place in eight Denver neighborhoods. We serve Barnum, Elyria, Globeville, La Alma/Lincoln Park, Swansea, Villa Park, West Colfax, and Westwood.
Timeline
2008
The first year of ECM, the focus was on Villa Park and West Colfax neighborhoods. This area was targeted because of it's proximity to Confluence Ministries (the organization through which ECM got started), as well as its need for assistance.
2009
ECM continued to work in Villa Park and West Colfax neighborhoods, while expanding to Gloebville and La Alma/Lincoln Park.
2010
ECM continued to work in the four previously mentioned neighborhoods, while expanding into Barnum and Westwood because of its geographical proximity to other target neighborhoods (partially Villa Park), as well as the opportunities to partner with some other groups already working there.
2012
ECM continued its presence in all the previously mentioned neighborhoods, while expanding to Elyria and Swansea. This expansion is due to the geographical proximity to the Globeville and numerous requests/suggestions from residents and community leaders towards these neighborhoods.
2017
In 2017, Extreme Yard Care, a social enterprise of ECM, was launched. EYC is a yard care and neighborhood revitalization business with the mission of providing quality, affordable lawn care services to Denver residents and businesses while supporting the mission of ECM and providing economic opportunity to residents in our eight target neighborhoods through employment. This is a yard care company with a greater purpose!
Future Goals
2018 and Beyond
We hope to continue inspiring people to find ways to be kind and to do good in their city and in their community, while spurring on a movement of volunteerism where people are being good neighbors in many different ways.We look forward to adding more numbers to our investment and more years to the timeline. Come celebrate with us on Friday, March 23rd, at 6:30 p.m, at Converge Denver for our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration!
