National Volunteer Week: Let’s Celebrate Volunteering in Denver

National Volunteer Week is April 7th through April 13th, so it’s time to celebrate volunteering in Denver! Volunteer service impacts our communities and neighborhoods in a positive way. Also, volunteering is a great way to have a positive impact on others around you. National Volunteer Week was established in 1974. You can help celebrate the week by inspiring others to volunteer and serving your community through volunteering yourself. Here are some positive impacts volunteering has on the individual and in the community.

Connecting to Your Community

Volunteering connects us to our communities. When we are out in the community, we get to learn about the people and neighborhood around us. We get to see, first hand, the needs of the community and then take an active part in being the solution to those needs.

Meeting Your Neighbors

Neighbors aren’t only the people right next door. Having a relationship with our next door neighbors is an important part to the health of the community though. Our neighbors are also those who are in our community. When we connect with our neighbors, we feel more positive about the world. Being in relationship with those around us helps us have people to rely on, but it also helps us with resources, both tangible and intangible, such as emotional support.

Feeling Inspired

Let’s face it. Volunteering makes us feel good. It inspires us because we are making others feel good and we are making a positive influence in our communities. Volunteering helps us to create a better world. It inspires us to be better and volunteering inspires us to make a better world.

Getting Your Hands Dirty

Serving our communities allows us to “get our hands dirty” and learn about the needs of those around us. There is a lot to be done to make our communities a better place to live. When we allow ourselves to learn about those needs, and then act upon those needs, we are able to connect and really make a difference. Serving with Extreme Community Makeover also allows us to physically get our hands dirty while we work on outdoor projects.
