Denver Days will celebrate its fourth year come July 30, as Denverites join their neighbors in building community during the weeklong event.
The brainchild of Mayor Michael B. Hancock, the program encourages people to host block parties, picnics, service projects and other gatherings to get to know their neighbors. More than 20,000 residents are expected to participate in this year’s Denver Days events, which total over 200.
“This year, the spirit of Denver Days has never been more important, providing us with the opportunity to work hand in hand as a city, the kind we all want our children to grow up in,” Hancock said during a preview event at Civic Center Park on Wednesday.
Events this year include something for everyone. In the Santa Fe district, events will spotlight local music and comedy on Aug. 5. Only July 30 and Aug. 4, the Urban Market at Skyline Park will host an all-day arts and crafts fair. Civic Center Conservancy will host Civic Center Eats, an event that brings over 80 food trucks to the park during the week, as well as free fitness classes and an outdoor movie, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.”
Extreme Community Makeover appreciates its volunteers. In 2015, we had over 2,800 volunteers participate in serving our eight Denver neighborhoods (Barnum, Elyria, Globeville, La Alma/Lincoln Park, Swansea, Villa Park, West Colfax and Westwood). Extreme Community Makeover wholeheartedly stands behind Denver Days effort to encourage neighbors to get to know their neighbors by hosting block parties, picnics, and service projects with the focus on small, organic gatherings.
On Saturday, July 30, 2016, we’ll be hosting service projects for Denver Days in the Globeville Neighborhood. We are expecting 200 volunteers, with 30+ projects scheduled. The groups participating are Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and the National Jesuit Student Leadership Conference, along with individuals.
On Sunday, August 7, 2016, our annual volunteer appreciation BBQ, ECM Fun Day, will be held at Barnum Park. This event is a time to celebrate and appreciate those who have volunteered with us throughout the year. There will be food, games, and lots of fun. Click here to get tickets.
